On Thursday, one of the busiest days for Starbucks, more than 1,000 workers went on strike.

However, baristas such as Josie Serrano claim that it exemplifies one of the fundamental demands made by the union:a plea for improved staffing.
Serrano, who works at a store in Long Beach, stated, "It's honestly one of those days that a lot of baristas try to... ask for leave because it's always always a very chaotic day."California Serrano asserts that she has worked for Starbucks for roughly four and a half years.She works at one of the 264 stores that have casted a ballot to unionize throughout the last year and joined the cross country strike on Thursday.
Representatives of Starbucks Workers United claim that one of the issues that prompted them to start the so-called Red Cup rebellion was staffing:a nationwide strike in which over 100 retail establishments set up their own picket lines.
According to Serrano, the purpose of the walkout is to persuade Starbucks to engage in honest bargaining with employees in the process of negotiating new contracts.
The union claims that Starbucks lawyers have walked out of bargaining sessions or requested rescheduling at the last minute, making it difficult for members to participate, and that the company has retaliated against union leaders.
However, Starbucks' executive vice president of communications, A.J. Jones, refutes that claim.
Jones stated to NPR, "Nothing could be further from the truth," adding that Starbucks Workers United has received ample notice of the bargaining session letters from the company.
Jones stated that the company's attempts to schedule bargaining sessions have probably been "overly aggressive."According to him, the issue with the most recent talk breakdowns is that the union leaders at the table want to record or broadcast negotiations on social media, which is against the law.
You are not permitted to record bargaining sessions under the National Labor Relations Act.Because of what is being discussed, that is in fact a clear violation of the act."
The laborers association rejects that that is a genuine hindrance.They claim that all they are doing is participating in Zoom calls with union members, which they claim is permitted.
On the picket line, leaders are trying to win over customers who might not be happy about the strike if it stops them from getting a red cup.In this way, they're offering a much more restrictive memorial thing:a red cup made by the union and emblazoned with the Starbucks Workers United logo on the front.
According to Serrano, this is a novel type of labor movement.
The movement has, in my opinion, been a lot of fun.It has been very beneficial.We simply wish to be able to share that with our supporters, as if this were a party.
Approximately sixty new bargaining sessions are currently scheduled before the middle of December.
