The men's national teams of FIFA's member associations will compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is an association football tournament and the 22nd FIFA World Cup.It will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18 in 2022.This will be the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world, and it will also be the second World Cup to be held entirely in Asia, following the tournament in South Korea and Japan in 2002.
There will be 32 teams participating in this tournament, and there will be 48 teams competing in the 2026 tournament. The event will include eight venues spread across five cities for matches.France, who defeated Croatia 4–2 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final, are the defending champions. This World Cup will be played in November and December due to Qatar's intense summer heat and humidity. It will be the first tournament not to be held in May, June, or July and to be played in the northern winter[1]. The opening match will be between Qatar and Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor.On Qatar's National Day, December 18, 2022, the final will take place.
There has been a lot of debate over Qatar's selection to host the World Cup.These include, among others, Qatar's treatment of migrant workers poorly, human rights record, and LGBT persecution;resulting in charges of sportswashing.Others have stated that Qatar's extreme climate and lack of a strong football culture are signs of FIFA corruption and bribery for hosting rights.Several nations,
clubs, and individual players plan to boycott the event, and former FIFA President Sepp Blatter has twice stated that granting Qatar hosting rights was a "mistake."
